Inside Curtin University's Get LOUD Day
Curtin University in partnership with Telethon Speech and Hearing (TSH) hosted the vibrant and colourful Get Loud Day to help raise funds for kids with hearing impairment on Wednesday 12th at Atkinson Forum, Curtin University.
The event aim is to raise fund for the TSH to support 14,000 children and their families who suffer from speech, hearing and language impairments around Western Australia each year.
According to TSH, Leonie Holder, Arlo Holder's mother, who has had a hearing impairment since he was one day old. Arlo's ability has improved greatly thanks to the support from Telethon Speech and Hearing.
"As a parent it was crucial to me that my child, and family, would have access to a holistic, child-centred, friendly and academically driven early intervention program," she said.
"We have found this, and more, in TSH."
Curtin's students and staffs and other communities had participated in the event day with the various activities of get LOUD including Morning Tea, get LOUD Shirt, George the Therapy Dog roams, Hearing Buses, PhotoBooth, Shrinking Violets musical trio roaming and more.
Besides those fun activities, all students and staffs are reminded not to forget the main purpose of the event, and are encouraged to donate money in the available donation boxes at the various activities for speech and hearing impaired children.
Based on the news from The West Australian, Telethon Speech and Hearing Get Loud representative Georgia Bouhlas said the organisation hoped to raise about $40,000 for the campaign.
"Get Loud has been running since June this year and it has had a good response," she said.
With the success of the Get LOUD Day a lot of fun, excitement and "getting loud" that Curtin's students and staffs got to enjoy, the day has also been a good opportunity for them to share their love and to give to those children with hearing impairments.
