Have you ever wondered what it would feel like not able to listen to your favorite music or hear from your loved ones? Well, most of us were born with the gift of our hearing but there are many who aren't as fortunate. According to The West Australian report, between nine and 12 children out of 10,000 births will be born without hearing in both ears, and another 23 children were recorded with hearing impairment lead to the use of hearing aid at the age of 17. While we live with the blessings of our hearing, there are a majority of children and families who need our help to change their lives and make their dreams come true. The aim is to raise funds to support over 14,000 children and their families who suffer from speech, hearing and language impairment, Telethon Speech and Hearing (TSH) is running a charity campaign called Get Loud Day. As a partnership of TSH, Curtin University proudly hosts the event with fun-filled and attractive activities held on Wednesday 12th October 2016 at Atkinson Forum. Curtin students, staffs and other communities had fun under brilliant weather and dedicated to a good cause by donation. As a part of the assessment, Curtin PR Technique students are required to participate in the Get Loud Day to record the fun and vibrant moments that we have experienced during the event. After the successful event, I'm gonna share with you some of my valuable memories that was worth sharing in the Get Loud Day. Before the event began, guests were invited for Morning Tea with a wide variety of delicious cakes and tea offerings while waiting. The foods with a diverse selection of sweet to salty were arranged beautifully on the table waiting for the crowd. I'm a fan of sweets so my favorites were the cream scones. I was impressed with those colourful badges with the words "Proud to be Curtin" at the end of each table, and I happily took the one with my favourite colour "Blue" and wear it on the left hand side of my T-shirt. It looked abosolutely perfect with my T-shit colour. We were all sitting down in the Atkinson Forum amphitheater after the snacks and gotten ready to listen to the Welcome Speech and Telethon's CEO Richard remind us the main purpose is to help WA children improve their speech and hearing skills. Beginning with the small vibrant nomination for Curtin staffs to dress up in colourful and lively costumes, the LOUDEST team will receive a special gift under the wild cheers from the audiences. I was heading to make my own LOUD T-shirt after the Welcome Speech, I have donated $5 and gotten the plain white T-shirt filled with anticipation. At the marquee station, the volunteers provided us with colourful markers and rubbing alcohol before explaining to us how to create my own unique T-shirt. It took me 10 minutes to think about the idea and half an hour to finish my first pineapple T-shirt. After you create it in single dots, don't forget to put some rubbing alcohol to transform it into the attractive patterns. Other activities including George the Therapy Dog, the Shrinking Violets musical trio, photobooth, Sausage Sizzle, Hearing Buses also came along around Atkinson Forum during the event. I was enjoyed most of the activities here and I'm thankful to Curtin University as well as TSH to help us understand and offered an opportunity to support these lovely children with unfortunate difficulties. As you can see, the number of Curtin students and staffs participated in the Get Loud Day and made it as meaningful as we can. So how about you? Are you willing to become a part of the Get Loud Day? *The images of the Get Loud Event provided below* Reference: http://info.thewest.com.au/westadvertising/feature/20160819/downloads/feature.pdf
